The Struggle Between Holidays and Regular Routine
As much as I love vacation I also love my regular routine!⠀
When people ask about my weight loss journey I tell them my key to success is from daily consistency with my nutrition (for me personally eating around 2000 calories everyday and eating my body weight in grams of protein), eating between 25-40g of fibre each day, doing a CrossFit workout 4-5 times per week, going for a daily walk, drinking 6-8 glasses of water, getting a good sleep and keeping stress minimal. Do I do this every single day? I do not. Do I do this 80% of the time? You bet. ⠀
So when vacation rolls around how do I navigate these situations? There will always be times that people can consider it a holiday but the truth is on long weekends and public holidays I don’t use every one of those times as an excuse to have all out free-for-alls. I choose my occasions with care and make sure I make them extra special if I am going to really indulge.
With a summer full of hot days ahead, people will be undoubtedly enjoying an icy cold beverage from time to time along with family BBQs, work get-togethers, weddings, family reunions, bonfires with friends and the list goes on and on. *GASP* Believe it or not I still enjoy having a few cocktails and letting loose from time to time! Times have changed from the days where I used to unhealthily eat and drink multiple times per week, you could also tell from the shape of my body at that time that I wasn’t really interested in my health much either.
I used to always think I could never weigh under 160 pounds but that was definitely not true either. One of the things that did hold me back at the time was the additional drinking and eating I was doing on the weekends and during the “not-so-special times” that were happening much more frequently than special occasions should. I have drastically cut back on the amount that I drink because honestly, aside from having a couple here and there to be social, any more than that and I was kind of that in-between where I had consumed a lot of calories but it wasn’t for any real reason. Now I save it for those special occasions, not any of those so-so ones. You won’t really ever find me having a drink just to have a drink and I use other methods of stress relief if I ever need it.⠀
When I do have a drink I try to make the best choice available to me. Maybe it’s a glass of wine, a light beer or cooler or vodka mixed with a no-calorie mix (water being my go-to!). If we pick and choose the extra-special times carefully then it’s easier to reach our health goals all while making those extraordinary times even more memorable.
