Chocolate “Pronuts” (Protein Donuts)

“Pronuts”? Say what?!!

Those who are starting out a new nutrition journey seem to typically have one thing in common, they are looking for ways to increase protein! I love looking for a quick, tasty treat that keeps me on track and as a added bonus, contributes towards my protein goals. These “pronuts” or “protein donuts” do the trick and are great enjoyed as dessert or evening treat.

Chocolate Pronuts (Protein Donuts)

Makes 6 Donuts. Each Donut: 69 Calories; 1F/6C/11P

Ingredients

Pronut Base

  • 30 grams Vanilla protein powder
  • 30 grams Cocoa powder
  • 12 grams Coconut flour
  • 5 grams Sweetener of your choice
  • 5 grams Baking powder
  • 70 grams Plain, fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 70 grams Unsweetened apple sauce
  • 75 grams Egg whites
  • 15 grams M&M Rainbow chips & or sprinkles(optional - nutritional information does not reflect this addition)

Protein Frosting

  • 20 grams Vanilla protein powder
  • 15 grams Cocoa powder
  • 45 grams Plain, fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 3 grams Sweetener of your choice
  • Cold water to make consistency of frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Now add your dry donut ingredients into a bowl (except for your rainbow chips) and mix to avoid clumping. Do the same with your wet ingredients in a separate bowl.

  2. Combine dry with wet ingredients and mix until you have a thick batter like consistency. Add your rainbow chips into your batter and mix until evenly distributed.

  3. Take your donut pan (I have wilton 6 cavity one off amazon) and spray each donut mold with non stick butter spray. Add your batter evenly into all 6 molds. Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Once done, pop out carefully and let cool for an hour or so on a cooling rack until they reach room temp.

  4. While those are cooling, make up your protein frosting by adding all the dry ingredients (except for rainbow chips) into a bowl and mixing. Then add cold water 10ml at a time and mix till you have a nice frosting like consistency. Add your 45g of Greek yogurt and mix well. Add to fridge to keep cool while donuts are cooling.

  5. Once donuts are cool, add your frosting, toppings and enjoy!
