Top 5 Places I Buy Carbs
For years bread has gotten a bad rap.
A few years ago “experts” shouted from the rooftops that carbs (ESPECIALLY bread and pasta) will make us fat and that we should eliminate it from our diets completely (actually I think it was the same people who said we shouldn’t eat egg yolks because they caused cholesterol 😉). In reality, we can still lose weight and eat carbs when maintaining the proper energy balance (but that is a post for a different day). People ask me all the time what types of foods I eat. You know what I eat on a daily basis? Bread. I don’t think I’ve gone a day without some form in years.. since we were told low-carb diets were the only way to do things and I hadn’t educated myself yet.
Anywho, as I said, debunking diet myths is something I’ll delve into at another time, today we are talking about…CARBS! Now, while I love me a good sammich, I also like to maximize what I’m eating and search for products that are a bit lower in carbs so I can eat MORE volume. Why have one sandwich when I could have two for the same amount of carbs? Here are my Top 5 places to buy bread products:
1. Hygeia Health Market (304 Stonebridge Boulevard, Saskatoon, SK) – so many amazing lower carb, higher fibre, lower fat products here. If you mention to them that I recommended it they’ll even give you a little discount on your purchase.
3. Costco – I love the Silver Hills Little Big Bread, Pretzel Crisps and Kodiak Cakes Pancake & Waffle Mix from here. Best Prices around for these products!
4. Sobey’s – The only place I can find Silver Hills Cinnamon Raisin Bread in Saskatoon. I also really like the Grimm’s Corn Tortillas for Mexican night, the Broghi’s Pop Crisps to pile my favourite toppings on as well as the Flat Out Wraps for a pizza base.
5. Loblaws – Blue Menu Thin Buns are great for BBQ season, the Byblos High Fiber Pitas make an awesome pizza base or place to stuff all your gyro ingredients and the Blue Menu Whole Wheat Waffles are one of my favourite things to make a convenient breakfast sandwich out of. Also, you can’t beat the fact that they have the online ordering and pick up.
Yours in food,
