Balancing Your Goals and Holidays

Having special occasions and holidays co-exist with your nutrition and reaching your goals can be tough.

I know this from experience! And while I would love to say I have mastered intuitive eating, it is still a work in progress for me. I always tell people that “if you spent all of those years creating bad habits, it’s going to take some time to make some good ones”. I have learned there are three types of people who view their nutrition on vacation or over the holidays:⠀

1. The “screw it I’m on holidays” kind who use it as an excuse to do whatever they want because they deserve it. ⠀

2. Mindful-eaters who try to be conscious of their choices but still enjoy things here and there that they maybe wouldn’t if they were at home. ⠀

3. They are completely dialed in, not straying from the course. ⠀

I have been a little bit of all of them over the years and can say while I made some mindful choices while I was gone this last time, I also indulged in some things as well. I think the most important thing for people to remember is that it is ok if your weight fluctuates a bit! Mine can go up and down between 5 pounds and it’s ok because I just get back into my regular routine once I’m home. That is the most important part!

Are you conscious of what you’re eating when you are on holidays? Or have you been known to overindulge? One time I gained 10 pounds on a week long trip to an all-inclusive to Mexico and I was devastated when I got home. Past Ashlyn could have learned to be a bit more mindful then 🙈⠀

I have been a lot of different shapes and sizes over the years but this is the one I’m the most comfortable being in including how I eat, workout and feel.. and it’s how I look when I incorporate balance between everything ♥️
