7 Vitamins for a Healthy 2019
There are so many different vitamins out there it’s hard to know what’s right for you!
Here is a peak inside my cupboard of the ones I feel are the most important for my health 🙂
Vitamin D is important for our bone health, including our teeth as well as resistance to chronic disease and reducing symptoms of depression and keeping our immune system healthy by helping fight off colds and flu. It is a must ESPECIALLY for Canadian residents who can’t synthesize vitamin D through the sun from November to March!
Lacking energy? Vitamin B50 helps to regulate our metabolism , supply us with energy, keeps our nervous system balanced and regulates our endocrine system.
Biotin (also known as Vitamin H) plays a key role in the body. It supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism and cells. Why do I take it? Because it is also vital for hair, liver, eyes and skin healthy and keeps my hair and skin thick and healthy.
Folic Acid isn’t just for expecting mothers. It also helps the prevention of heart disorders, stroke, cancer as well as helps in building muscles, cell enhancement, hemoglobin formation, and provides relief from mental and emotional disorders. I take it to help my locks, lashes and nails grow faster.
Magnesium is known for its ability to relieve insomnia. Studies have found that it helps decrease the stress hormone, cortisol, that can keep you up at night. It also helps your muscles relax to give a calming feeling that helps people unwind. It can even reduce muscle cramping, twitching or restless legs that some people experience at night. I also love the drink Calm before bed for sleep.
Zinc is essential in boosting the immune system (the body’s protective network that fends off the invasion of harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals and prevents people from getting sick). The supplement ZMA includes both zinc and magnesium and really promotes restful sleep around our house and I suck on zinc lozenges throughout my day to fight off sickness!
Regular use of Vitamin C can shorten the duration of a cold, lower risk of cardiovascular diseases, cataracts, pneumonia, tetanus, asthma, and liver disease. Vitamin C is required to make collagen, heal wounds, produce some neurotransmitters, support your immune system and prevent scurvy in individuals who aren’t consistently eating fruits and vegetables.
If you’re consider supplementing with vitamins please consult your pharmacist to ensure the proper dosage, that they aren’t conflicting with any other medications you may be taking and for instructions on when to take them as some need to be taken with food in order to be effective.
